The Liz McGrath Collection is celebrating a significant milestone, with three of its iconic hotels recognised in the newly released 2026 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection.
The recognition sees The Plettenberg in Plettenberg Bay and The Marine in Hermanus selected for the first time, joining The Cellars-Hohenort in Constantia (Cape Town), which has been recognised for the second consecutive year while retaining its One MICHELIN Key.
The MICHELIN Key is the hotel equivalent of the MICHELIN Star for restaurants, recognising hotels that offer an outstanding experience. The MICHELIN Guide’s hotel selection celebrates properties that combine character, quality, service and a strong sense of place, identifying hotels that offer extraordinary stays. The 2026 selection includes 78 hotels in South Africa, forming part of a global MICHELIN Guide hotel selection of more than 9,400 hotels worldwide.

The MICHELIN Guide’s hotel inspectors select properties independently and anonymously, assessing hotels against a set of universal criteria designed to identify exceptional experiences. These include the hotel’s individuality and character, the quality and consistency of service, comfort and maintenance, design and architecture, value relative to the experience, and the hotel’s connection to its destination.
