Amura by Ángel León at Mount Nelson a Belmond Hotel Cape Town Announces an Exclusive Four hands Dinner with Kobus Van Der Merwe of Wolfgat African Luxury

This April, Amura by Ángel León at Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town welcomes acclaimed South African chef Kobus van der Merwe of Wolfgat for a rare four-hands collaboration shaped by a shared reverence for the ocean and the landscapes that define it. Taking place on 26 and 27 April 2026, the limited-seat experience brings together the marine-driven philosophy of Ángel León with van der Merwe’s hyper-local strandveld cuisine, interpreted at Amura by Head Chef Arlind Harizaj.

Blending culinary craft and cultural storytelling, the collaboration reflects Amura’s ongoing exploration of how coastal environments inform flavour, technique and memory. The six-course tasting menu, served with a curated wine pairing, brings León’s pioneering marine philosophy into dialogue with the distinct sensibility and rich ingredients of the Cape.

AMURA X WOLFGAT: A DIALOGUE BETWEEN COASTLINES

Founded in 2016 in the fishing village of Paternoster, Wolfgat operates from a restored 130-year-old fisherman’s cottage overlooking the sea. The restaurant has earned international acclaim for its highly seasonal tasting menu shaped by indigenous strandveld ingredients, including wild coastal herbs, seaweeds and sustainably sourced seafood gathered near the restaurant.

Van der Merwe’s cooking reflects a lifelong relationship with the South African landscape. Raised between the Kalahari and the Boland, his approach draws on early coastal food traditions and a sensitivity to place that resonates closely with Amura’s own ingredient-led philosophy and profound respect for the sea.

“Amura was conceived as a space where Chef Ángel León’s pioneering marine cuisine could engage meaningfully with the exceptional ingredients and coastal heritage of the Cape,” says Patrick Fisher, General Manager of Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel. “Kobus shares a similarly thoughtful relationship with landscape and seasonality, making this collaboration a natural dialogue between two distinctive culinary voices shaped by the sea.”
