The Marine Welcomes Festivalgoers To The Fynarts Festival (6 – 16 June 2025)

The picturesque coastal town of Hermanus is set to come alive with a vibrant celebration of arts and culture as the annual FynArts Festival returns from 6 to 16 June 2025. Boasting a stellar lineup of must-see performances, captivating talks, and immersive experiences, this year’s festival promises to inspire and delight audiences from near and far.

“The FynArts Festival is not just an event; it’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and community,” said Oelof Vorster, Head Chef at The Marine. “We’re excited to welcome festivalgoers to The Marine, where they can immerse themselves in the arts while enjoying unparalleled hospitality.”

Nestled along the iconic cliff path with breathtaking views of Walker Bay, The Marine Hotel is the perfect base for festivalgoers. With its prime location just steps away from key FynArts venues, art galleries, and performances, The Marine is offering an exclusive festival rate starting at R4 367 per room per night, including a full breakfast. Guests can quote ‘FynArts’ when booking to enjoy this special rate.

For those seeking a truly unforgettable stay, sea-facing rooms provide not only luxurious comfort but also the possibility of witnessing southern right whales from the privacy of their rooms, as whale season coincides with the festival period.

“Imagine starting your morning with a cup of coffee, watching southern right whales breach against the backdrop of the sunrise – that’s the experience we offer at The Marine during FynArts,” added Vorster.

FynArts 2025 is set to be the most dynamic edition in the festival’s 13-year history, showcasing a vibrant mix of emerging talents, beloved favourites, and exciting new acts. The opening weekend (6–8 June) will feature four marquee performances, including the classical music Opening Concert, the Strauss Bicentenary Concert led by acclaimed conductor Richard Cock, the Cape Ballet Africa’s presentation of extracts from SALT, and the choral extravaganza Songs of Praise.

Throughout the festival, attendees will be treated to a rich array of music genres – from jazz and classical to cabaret and contemporary – as part of the eclectic music programme. Highlights include Wine, Times and Other Tastings, a multisensory journey through South African history combining storytelling, music, food, and wine.

Theatre enthusiasts can look forward to exceptional productions like Blonde Poison starring Fiona Ramsay, Mission Improvable featuring Cape Town’s top improv troupe, and Round of Applause Reloaded by Mariann Thamm.

Art aficionados can delve into the Strauss & Co Series of Presentations, featuring leading voices in the art world, as well as compelling discussions with Frank Kilbourn and Charles Shields of Everard Read. Additionally, this year introduces Wake Up with the Daily Maverick, an early-morning current affairs series, alongside live Fine Music Radio broadcasts from the Burgundy Restaurant and a panel discussion titled Classics and Jazz in Conversation.

For those seeking hands-on experiences, the 2025 workshop programme offers a diverse selection of activities ranging from ceramics and photography to drumming, writing, and culinary arts. New authors will also have the opportunity to discuss their recently published works, spanning genres from fiction and memoir to speculative and dystopian themes.

The festival’s culinary component continues to shine as a major attraction, with chef demonstrations, cooking classes, and gourmet tastings showcasing the finest flavours of the Overberg. From 9 to 11 June, The Marine will host a series of three Wine Encounters, spotlighting the Cap Classique Challenge winners, KWV’s premium offerings, and a masterclass on wine appreciation.

Throughout the ten-day event, guests are invited to unwind at The Marine’s Sun Lounge, where panoramic ocean views provide the perfect backdrop for coffee, Afternoon Tea, and comforting Winter Warmer Specials. The Pavilion Restaurant, led by Head Chef Oelof Vorster, serves delectable dishes crafted from locally sourced Overberg ingredients, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner to both residents and non-residents.

“Our mission is to provide a sanctuary of comfort and luxury for festivalgoers, where they can enjoy both the finest arts and the best in culinary excellence,” said Vorster.
