20th April 2022 – IQOS, the world’s number one selling heat-not-burn system, has evolved with the introduction of a limited-edition version of the IQOS 3 DUO smoke-free tobacco heating system, now available in South Africa.
The latest addition to the IQOS 3 DUO family celebrates the diversity, inclusion and belonging of the IQOS community. Developed specifically for this community who are united in their aim to move to better alternatives, the new We Edition IQOS 3 DUO device is available for a limited period.
The IQOS 3 DUO is the most advanced of the tobacco heating systems in South Africa, and provides adult smokers a scientifically substantiated smoke-free product that is a better choice than continuing to smoke cigarettes.
The latest limited release offers a sophisticated signature look with a turquoise hue, flecked with a dazzling constellation of colours symbolising the beauty of diversity, individuality and raw authenticity.
“We continuously look to bring adult smokers new innovative products that are a better smoke-free alternative to cigarettes,” says Rishaad Hajee, Director of Corporate Communications at Philip Morris South Africa. “We’re all diverse – from different walks of life, different backgrounds and different cultures around the world. But in the end, IQOS users are united by the same thing: having made a better choice than continued cigarette smoking by switching to IQOS, a smoke-free alternative.”
He points out that IQOS emits, on average, 95 percent lower levels of harmful chemicals compared to the smoke of a cigarette. “IQOS offers a cleaner and less harmful way of enjoying real tobacco compared to cigarettes, with no smoke, no tar, no ash and less smell,” he explains.
“One of the most notable differences, he clarifies, is the absence of burning. “When a cigarette is lit, the tobacco burns at high temperatures producing ash, tar, and smoke that contain high levels of harmful chemicals. It is the burning of tobacco that generates smoke.”
He says that because IQOS heats tobacco to significantly lower temperatures, without burning it, and therefore produces no smoke or ash. “The absence of burning of tobacco is the fundamental difference between cigarettes and IQOSand unlike vapes, which heat a liquid,” he adds.
This is the third limited release of an IQOS 3 DUO device since PMI unveiled the device in 2019. It is designed with new features to help adult smokers switch from cigarettes ‘more seamlessly’. It is described as the ‘fastest and most powerful’ holder within the IQOS family of blade heated tobacco systems and allows two consecutive uses without recharging the holder. The We Edition IQOS 3 DUO is also compatible with the existing IQOS 3 DUO range of accessories.
Hajee continues: “PMI has invested more than USD 9 billion to develop, scientifically substantiate and commercialise innovative smoke-free products for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke, with the goal of completely ending the sale of cigarettes.”
PMI’s smoke-free products are available for sale in 71 countries and the company estimates that approximately 15.3 million adults around the world have already switched to IQOS and stopped smoking.*
