FESTAC Africa is proud to announce that the legendary Les Wanyika will be present and performing at the FESTAC AFRICA festival which will be held in Arusha, Tanzania, from the 21st to the 27th of May 2023.
The Chairman of The Inspire Group and Chairman of FESTAC Africa, Engr. Yinka Abioye, on the 29th March 2023 announced the partnership. “It is with pride and joy that I share with you that Les Wanyika Band the icons who have roots in both Kenya and Tanzania. Their music, which reflects our rich culture and natural storytelling, is well loved, enjoyed across the entire continent and has spanned several generations.
This will be a Homecoming for the band and a renaissance of their past accomplishments.
From the outset, Festac was founded on the acknowledgement, the understanding and appreciation of the social capital inherent in the African people. The abundance of that social capital is found in our music, art, cuisine, fashion, creative writing, sports and of course, business.
FESTAC Africa aims and strives to present black and African cultures, to bring to light the diverse contributions of African people, to promote. African artists & performers, and to facilitate world acceptance and access to global outlets for Africans in the art space.
Les Wanyika will grace the stage with South African artists in an epic salute to the brotherhood, the courage and unparalleled support of Tanzania and other nations, which despite having attained their own independence acknowledged the fact that if any African nation was not yet uhuru, then none of us were. It is in that spirit of unity that FESTAC AFRICA invites and awaits you in Arusha where you will experience Africa in 7 days. Come listen & dance to timeless songs such as Sina Makosa, Amigo, Afro and more. Come and be transported to yesteryears by a band that will be very present in the moment.
There is an African saying which goes “Tomorrow belongs to people who prepare for it today” and we strive to promote better international, interracial understanding of the diversity of the African culture, rhythm and talents. We also endeavor to facilitate a periodic return to our origins in Africa by our artists, writers and performers uprooted and currently
residing in other continents.
As Robert Sobukwe once invited Africans to a tree rooted in African soil, nourished with waters from the rivers of Africa, we, too, are inviting you to a tree in Arusha, Tanzania, from 21-27 May 2023. “Come and sit under its shade” and become, with us, the leaves of the same branch and the branches of the same tree.
