Durban, 05 November 2020. With female unemployment in South Africa on the rise, now more than ever there is a need and opportunity for women to pursue entrepreneurship as a career. Today, NIVEA announced the 10 winners of the NIVEA Skinfluencer 2020 Competition, which could see these women go on to carve a successful career in the growing digital marketing industry.
Ten winners stand out amongst tough competition
Ten winners have been selected, and they are:

Khwezi Madlala, Sue Mokoena, Esihle Ndleleni, Ofentse Lekwane, Anarzade Omar, Lesego Mogonediwa, Dineo Jeniffer Mapoma, Ofentse Molefe, Katleho Motaung, Simone Kruger

The winners were selected from over 2 500 entries received in September. A panel of judges, including brand representatives, voted for the top 20 and then the public voted for the 10 winners. “We believe the winners have what it takes to create a successful career as social media influencers. What made these entrants stand out was the level of thought and effort which went into creating their one-minute video content piece, to capture their unique personality and win the interest of the viewer,” said Mpume Ngwenya, NIVEA Marketing Manager”.

Empowering and nurturing up-and-coming influencers

The Skinfluencer competition was created by the global skincare brand to find and uplift the next generation of social media content creators. Influencers have the innate ability to create something magical from just a thought and the open reception of their followers. NIVEA recognises this skill and hopes to tap in and grow women who are ready for the digital future with the hope that it will help open doors into a self-led business.

The 10 winners will be nurtured by NIVEA through a year-long learning experience of skills development, hands-on work experience and valuable exposure to the industry. Winners will each receive a laptop, a smart phone, and other content creation tools and prize money valued at over R70 000 each, to help turn their social media skills into a lucrative profession.

NIVEA has recognised a growing global trend of booming e-commerce and with it an increase in digital presence. The Independent technology market research group, World Wide Worx, has accounted South Africa’s online retail industry as 1.4% of total retail. The growth and opportunity as the country evolves, highlights the possibilities for digital influencers’ growth to occur in line with e-commerce growth.

Women interested in social media marketing were also able to attend a free online Masterclass hosted by NIVEA on 2 September, for all aspiring influencers to learn from and gain insights from South Africa’s pioneering and most influential influencers.

“In this digital age, NIVEA is doing everything possible to empower our consumers. With the NIVEA Skinfluencer initiative we aim to provide the tools for women to build a highly lucrative career,” says Ngwenya.
