Receives first-ever perfect, 100-point score for brandy
Leading spirits producer KWV made history at the Veritas Awards 2021 when it became the first recipient of a perfect, 100-point score for a brandy in the 31-year history of this esteemed competition. This incredible achievement was awarded to KWV Brandy’s 15 Year Alambic Blend Potstill Brandy.
In addition, KWV Brandy also outperformed all other distillers in the brandy category when it took home four Double Gold and one Gold medal. With scores ranging from 93 to 100, KWV’s Double Gold winners are KWV 3 Year Old Finest Blend, KWV 10 Year Old Potstill Brandy, KWV 20 Year Potstill Brandy and KWV 15 Year Alambic Blend Potstill Brandy. Also hitting the 90+ mark was KWV’s 5 Year Old Superior Blend Brandy, which received a Gold medal.
No stranger to accolades, KWV has a proud global reputation as a leading spirit producer, with its award-winning brandies regularly featured on the podiums of renowned international and national competitions. KWV was one of the first commercial producers of South African brandy, bottling its first brandy in 1926. It is therefore apt that this pioneering brand should become the first brand to receive a faultless, 100-point score at one of South Africa’s most established wine and spirit competitions.
This is not the first time KWV Brandy made history: In 2019, KWV Centenary Brandy became the first product to ever be awarded 99 points in the Platter’s Wine Guide – another benchmark accolade.

The KWV 15 Year Alambic Blend Potstill Brandy is one of the most awarded brandies in the world and is of a standard that is recognised and celebrated by connoisseurs globally. “To receive 100-points, the first perfect score in the 31-year history of Veritas is unbelievable recognition of my whole team’s commitment and passion to always give their best. I am super proud of my team and thankful to Veritas for this incredible honour,” said Pieter.
Pieter further added that the Veritas Awards also indicate the care bestowed on each product within KWV’s distillery: “Special mention should be made of the KWV 3 Year Old Finest Blend, which was the only brandy in the standard class that received a Double Gold medal, which just shows that quality is embedded within the KWV Brandy ethos.”
