AXOR’s history actually begins almost two decades before its launch, in 1974. Klaus Grohe worked with Hartmut Esslinger, Georg Spreng, and Andreas Haug (frog Design) on the Tri-Bel handshower, earning Hansgrohe their first design award.
Andreas Haug joins Tom Schönherr to form Phoenix Design in 1987; playing a critical role in AXOR since its birth in 1993. Amongst their collaborations can be found the AXOR Uno, AXOR Montreux and AXOR ShowerHeaven.
Since 1993, AXOR has worked with many notable designers, including Phillipe Starck, Antonio Citterio, Jean-Marie Massaud, Patricia Urquiola, Front, Nendo, and Barber & Osgerby – amidst many others.
Proof in the Pudding
AXOR’s original concept was to turn the bathroom into a place of calm and reflection; of security and relaxation in a fast-paced life. Launched in Frankfurt, AXOR’s première came with the tagline, “AXOR makes the bathroom personal”, a slogan which rings true to this day.
“AXOR Starck is a prime example of how closely design and innovation, form and function are connected together in our company,” says Jürgen Groß, Head of Research and Development.
“It requires a culture of innovation and an understanding of design that’s deeply rooted in the company. We’ve built that up over many years of intensive cooperation with these design greats, who are among the best in the world and are all different. It’s what makes us who we are.”
There can be no doubt to their methods: AXOR have accrued more than 600 design awards for their products in the last 27 years.
Still Innovating
While AXOR’s storied success is well-documented, there is still plenty of scope for future achievements. An example would be Phoenix Design’s most recent contribution – AXOR MyEdition. This product allows you to style your bathroom the way you see fit, with a vast range of pristine and extravagant finishes that are fit for royalty.
With such great partnerships with some of the finest designers in the world, one thing is certain.
